I don't know if this is the proper forum, but it is closest I could guess at. I was wondering if anyone knows of a place online where one could by some of those vinyl tree tag labels (where you can write on them, and attach by looping one end around a branch and through a hole in the tag, and pull tight).
I could only find one source online, and it is for an insane amount. I just need a few now, and maybe a 100-200 or so tops for keeping track of my boo and other plants over the years (ie name, year germinated or planted, height, culm diameter, etc).
I live in a small town, so all the places around here don't carry them, nor could they order them when I inquired. Thanks!

Go ahead and buy the 1000. You can give away the extras to your gardener friends as stocken stuffers.

RE: Vinyl Tree Tag labels?
I broke down and got an electronic label maker to make labels to go on the plastic tags. Saves a lot of time trying to decode my scrawls six months later. If you get one, get one that uses TZ labels because they are designed to be weather resistant. All the ones I've used still look new.

Heh, yeah the 1000 Tree Tags would probably last me all of my 9 lifetimes, and the shipping is almost as much as the labels themselves it seems! needmore, thanks for the AM Leonard tip, they had even bigger tree tags then the ones I had found. I probably will order the 1" tags from them.
foxd, I like your suggestion about an electronic labler. I just stumbled across your post, are you still happy with the Brother PT-2700? It looks like I can get that for $69.99 on Amazon. I like the fact that I can keep track of the data on my PC, as well as copy and paste into the labels, even modifying the saved labels later if I want, and reprinting them.
What tape do you like, the black print on white tape? Or on clear tape? I see both are available, not sure if one performs better over the other.

RE: Vinyl Tree Tag labels?
Sven, yeah, I'm still happy with the PT-2700. I suppose it wouldn't make much difference which color tape I use. Staples has a rather limited selection of tapes available, but according to the box there are a wide range of colored tapes with different print colors and different widths available. The main thing though is that the TZ tape lasts.
BTW, the PT-2700 can also add graphics and bar-codes to the labels, which would be useful for a Nursery to add a logo and a way of quickly scanning inventory.
I really should play with the options for using the PT-2700 with Excel, Access, Word and Outlook.

RE: Vinyl Tree Tag labels?
I think I'll look this route. I might try the black on white version of the TZ labels that you champion, as that will allow me to read anything I want to put on the black nursery containers that seem to get moved around all the time!
FWIW, at AM Leonard, I saw some vinyl tree tags that you could print directly onto with certain printers. That might be a little to specialized for my needs (since I'm not a nursery). This should work exactly for what I want to do, and still be able to read it later down the line (calling my handwriting chicken scratch might be a compliment... =D).

RE: Vinyl Tree Tag labels?
Just a FWIW post to close my own topic: I was going to order the 10 inch x 1 inch roll of 1000 labels from AM Leonard, but just as a lark today I did an ebay search, and after searching for "Vinyl Plant Label" on ebay, I found someone who is selling 100 of the 7 inch by 5/8 inch version for roughly $5.50 shipped. This should last me for quite some time!
You can get them from the seller (Earth Star Inc is the ebay seller) in at least 5 different colors if you want to get fancy. Just in case someone else wants some, but doesn't want to pay $50 for 1000 of them!

For the homeowner, buy the cheapest mini blinds you can find. Cut to length and punch a hole in one in with a hole punch. Write on them with pencil. They along with the writing will outlast most folks.

RE: Vinyl Tree Tag labels?
An update on my plant labels. After one winter they still look brand new. The only problem I noticed is the freezing soil this winter pushed a few of them out of the ground.

I agree on the mini blinds for labels... didnt you notice all the boos that you got from me were labeled that way, Sven?
if you cut them right, you can get some with holes for hanging, where the string goes through, and some for sticking in the pots. I use a paint pen, which come in multiple colors, and I think that the combo will last a while. Certanly no fading in the couple of years since I labled my first plants using this method.
