Here in the Northwest we wanted to sympathise with you so we had a storm last night with winds over 60 mph but we could not get the water so it stirred up so much dust you could not see through it. The thunder storm that followed the wind did drop some rain but also sparked a number of fires that they are still fighting. Today it sound like it is Montana's turn for the storm.

On a positive note I did get .1 inches of rain and the dust was washed off of the bamboo. The high temps also dropped from 100 to below 70.

So far, here in Tampa, we have lucked out. The storm has been coming from southwest Florida and going diagonally across the State toward the northeast part of the State. We've got almost no rain, but some slight winds.

The storm has been moving slowly all day and for some reason or another, it has not decreased its wind speed once it has moved onto land. In fact, it has slightly increased wind speed since coming ashore.

The storm has no real air current to drive it one way or another, so it might possibly go out into the Atlantic and then turn around and come back across the State as a hurricane. Also, there is probably something else coming way out in the Atlantic for us to worry about. The hurricane season peaks in mid-September and goes to December.

BTW: For what ever it's worth, I looked through the Emoticons and I didn't find anything that looked like a hurricane.

Mantis,

Looking at the "guestimate" of where Fay is going, a little push further south and Fay would be back out in the Gulf and perhaps you would have Hurricane Fay coming your way!

We had a weird storm yesterday. It formed on the East side of town, swept across the city and dissipated on the West side. It was odd in the fact that most storms move West to East through the county, rather than forming, moving backwards and dissipating within the county. :? Not that I mind, I didn't have to water plants. :)

great. There is some wonderful weather heading into area!
Softball size hail, and tornados are what's in the forecast for the next hour or two...

Just my luck. RIGHT when I move a bunch of plants from my basement and put them outside... Ughh.
Well, I'm going to push my luck and get my best plants back indoor. Thankfully they aren't anymore then 15-20 feet from my house. I didn't move then all the way out yet. I just got them by my porch.

Hopefully this will just pass...

Whew. We just got the rain part.
Man, Dudley you right. The weather this year is REALLY crazy.

We have been off and on with warm and cold here in North east GA. Our last freeze was a few nights ago, and that whole day it had very comfortable and the first day I could wear shorts and not freeze.

I think were supposed to get hot with a small heat wave, (which 1. Probably won't last long, and 2. Probably won't get over 75*F.) but I hope there aren't any freezes after it so of my plants decide to start shooting because of the heat, try aren't all killed off by the cold. I had a few species do that last year but were able to manage some more shoots later in the season.

Saturday: High: 54*F. Low: 31*F.
Sunday: High: 47*F.Low: 25*F.
Monday: High: 49*F.Low: 25*F.

I think Gainesville, GA is FINALLY done with late freezes.

Today it was MUCH windier than usual and too down TWO trees on my property! These were huge trees too! It was really wierd to because last week we were on Tornado Watch for a few hours and there were several tornado's spotted in surrounding cities not to far from my house, and it got WINDY, but it was even windier today which really is weird around here.

The weather this year is unbelievable! Last year, we were in a MEGA-Drought, this year we get hammered with rain.
Last year, hardly any wind, this year, more wind damage than most of the Hurricane damage that occured at my place in Palm Beach Co. Florida!

*No bamboos were harmed as a result of this freak, winter/random weather damage* :D

Here are the pictures of the damage from today's wind:

RIGHT in the middle of the backyard, leaning on another tree, which will probably end up falling from the weight being held on it

THIS one took out the neighbors fence and landed on their playset! Playset wasn't damaged at all!

Was the ground seriously saturated from lots of recent rain? That's my concern here sometimes, we live in the midst of numerous 100+ foot hardwoods and anytime we get BIG rains and even modest wind I get a tad uneasy.
