Zones

Post by GungHoJoe »

Tonight I had some time to read more posts. (I'm a bamboo newbie) There are people from all over the world here, and many of them seem to have nurseries or otherwise have a professional interest in bamboo. wow!

Since bamboo takes so long to get started, I want to be sure I use something that will work like I want it too. I'm starting with Moso because I wanted a tall bamboo but lots of people on this forum say theirs doesn't get over 8-10', maybe because of where they live?

There is lots of conflicting information about bamboo on the web.

Is there a way to find posts from others in my zone?
I'm zone 5/6 (NC USA) but high elevation, about 2500 ft.

No way to sort out the growers/posts here on this forum by USDA Hardiness Zone that I am aware of. Not all of us list the zones that we live in either. Are you sure that you are in zone 5 or 6? That is really cold, zone 5 is minus 20, and zone 6 is minus 10 degrees F. You are below growing a lot of even the most hardy bamboos in those zones, including Phy. edulis (Moso), which survives down to about zero F.

Also yes, indeed, there is a lot of conflicting information about bamboo. Even amung the experts.
Happy trails...
