Lotus & Bamboo festival...

Post by mantis »

at the Buu Mon Monestary in Port Arthur, TX. Has anyone ever gone? My wife wants to go this year, and I was wondering if it was worth the 2+ hour drive each way. I know nothing about it, so any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think this is the first time they are holding the Bamboo Festival in conjunction with their Lotus Festival. The couple of times I have gone in the past it was held in October. See http://bambooweb.info/bb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1986 I have never been to their Lotus Festival, but understand it usually has a fairly large attendance.

Its definitely worth going to the Buu Mon Lotus and Bamboo Festival. The festival is June 6 and 7, 2009. The lotus flowers are in bloom and beautiful and compliment the large tropical bamboo collection.
This is actually the second time that the Lotus and Bamboo Festival have been combined at the Buu Mon Buddhist Temple in Port Arthur, Texas.

You can see pictures of some of the bamboos there by searching for "buu mon" at http://www.bamboocraft.net/bamboo

Here is a link that will tell you a little more about the event:

There is still time to sign up to be a bamboo vendor - here is a link to the vendor application:

It is a very interesting and cultural event,
