Gotta love the new FTC, looks like there will be a effort to verify something is really made from bamboo in when it comes to consumer textiles.

Looks like the change in administration has kicked in. I think it is a good thing to get clairity in what is a bamboo product and what isn't.

Well now I'm rather pissed off.. If you look around enough you will find the case evidence in pdf form. Essentially these products are tagged anywhere from 70% bamboo / 30% "organic" cotton to 100% bamboo for material fiber and are then shown to made in China or even the USA and they still lied about the product. I guess I need to be a textile maker to buy my clothes now too. ~Eco snob mode off~

Dang, they say there's no such thing as bamboo textiles on the market: it's all rayon. "Rayon is a man-made fiber created from the cellulose found in plants and trees and processed with harsh chemicals that release hazardous air pollution. Any plant or tree – including bamboo – could be used as the cellulose source, but the fiber that is created is rayon." (http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2010/02/bamboo.shtm). Even when bamboo is the “plant source” used to create rayon, no traits of the original plant are left in the finished product...textiles made just from bamboo fiber don’t feel silky smooth (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consume ... lt160.shtm).

a year or two ago someone from INBAR wrote an article on that same thing, good to see that the powers that be are finally getting around to realizing what people in the industry have know for a while, and consumers can stop being ripped off! the claims about "bamboo" fiber were absolutely crazy, about how it wicks moisture the best, is super soft, hypoallergenic, has antibacterial and antifungal properties.....

From the article: “Avoid Bamboo-zling Your Customers”

But as I read all this I'm wearing a nice soft 'bamboo' t-shirt from the 29th ABS meeting! I don't wanna have it be rayon!!!
