Record Lowest Temperatures by State

Post by Matt W »

Thinking about the bamboo I have and considering some more I wondered how cold it could get here. Found this and thought it was interesting. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0113527.html

Except for Alaska, at -80 F.

This is amazing! I also learned that -40 F = -40 C. :D

January 1994 it hit -31F at my place about 1/4 mile from where I live now. It was about 2 weeks before I moved to Honolulu but that was just a coincidence.

Some of the recordings being taken on top of a mountain I think, is a little misleading too. I've been on Mt. Mitchell in NC in the summer and it was cold. Never the less, if I had been on one of those million dollar game shows I couldn't even have guessed close for any state. :o

If you look at the Florida map, my bamboo is just about the center of the 8a zone. I have seen it in single digits only a few times in my life, but you can almost count on the low 20s every year. It does not last long and in general we have a nice easy winter that lasts about two weeks if you add it all the up. No tropicals in my neck of the woods.

Kinda like where I live. I am by the map in 9a Where I work in Port Oconnor 15 min. down the road it acts like 9b in the winter but I watch Victoria weather (8b) for my forcasts. They are all most dead on. Some sort of cold sink around here.
