I'll try again

Hello
I am looking to get a MOSO bamboo plant.
Here is a list of my stash. Will trade plant for plant. I can supply photos of any one of them.

Hi Booman,
Where are you located? I'm trting to get mine to come back after planting it in full sun, low humidity and very hot. Plus it only gets water every week or 2. I had it growing well in 1/2 day sun+ got around 60 shoots up to or above an inch this year, but lost many due to lack of water during shooting. If you have humidity, you'll probably do well.
I only have a bout 40 culms left and don't want to disturb it now as it has cooled some and appears to be doing well. I'll check with a friend that has some in a container.
Chico, CA 105 20% humidity in the summer.
40+ varieties; trying to stay close to that until I get them all in the ground. 1 + acre to grow on. 30 in the ground!

Hello bamboo4me

I am in Texas between S.A. & Austin - hot but not too dry.
We get occasional rains in the summer so it's semi-humid sometimes.
I had a Moso I grew from a seed but I killed it. ????? I am going to try it again and see if that is possible. Some tropicals grow good here without to much fuss. Most temperates do well even w/o a lot of moisture. With frequent water they excell, especially if the rains come frequently. Anyway I have a variety of nice plants to trade for an established Moso plant.
Thanks

Having been one of those who had tried four times to get Moso to grow here near Brenham TX, and never had it live even for a year; I had decided not to try again. "Famous last words." I am going to try again. I visited Kentuck down near Columbus TX this weekend, and as usual came back with more bamboo than I had taken down to him, including a Moso division that I ended up further dividing in to two 3 gallon pots.

I am convinced the problem here is the alkalinity of our water. With these two plants I am going to try something Kinder Chambers suggested some time ago which is to mix a little vinegar in with the water to lower the pH.

Moso just languishes here in Florida. Even so I have one that puts up shoots now and then and does not do much anything else but look sad and depressed.

I have found that it is good for something; using it for trading divisions of it for a bamboo that will grow in Florida.

Poor thing, it desperately needs a good home, but I will hold it hostage till someone offers a trade.

Poor thing...hint, hint....

I here you Mike. My brother and I have about a hundred potted Moso plants that are about 3 - 4 years old from seed. They are all in shade and now that many of them have burst out of the pots and running they actually look alot better. We're hoping that the shade of the large oaks will help them grow in to something more than the little sticks they are now.

One other thing from my understanding they need much more water than your standard tropical bamboo.

I'd be willing to do some trades too, but I really don't need any more runners. I have a few now that are potted but will soon be divided, re-potted and either traded or sold.
Someday maybe I'll find a bamboo my wife likes...in the meantime I'll keep planting more!

I have several size Buddahs... I thought I had Moso... but it seems that its not... its been in the ground for 2+ years now and still keeps a tight clumping look... I posted pics and asked for ID help ... still not sure what I have ;-) But would like some Moso...(that I know is MOSO) haha
I traded off a 20 gallon planter of MOSO...identical to what I have in the ground... the new owner says its running fine for him... they came from the same seeds that mine in the ground were grown from. So I'm stumped.

I'm not getting notice of replies either...so could you PM me if interested in trades.
Thanks

CJ, are the culms fuzzy? What do the oral setae look like? These were the two characteristics that really stood out to me on MOSO seedlings.
Your clumper may at some point turn into a runner, or you could have a rare clumping MOSO. :) (Mine turned into a runner.)

Very fuzzy... been in a tight clump for near 3 years with no strays appearing more than an inch from the previous growth. Kentuc mentioned a possible ID but I cont seem to locate it right now. A D. Asper or something I believe.

I don't have anything like it so that is why I can't tell what it is except that it looks like a clumper. We need to find out what it is. I will start investigating.

First clue. Is it cold hardy? You (it) is in North Carolina zone 7. So does it drop the leaves or die back to the ground when it freezes?
