Asian artifacts for bamboo

Post by fredgpops »

I lived in Asia for 5 years and have various items collected that I need to dispose of including carvings, masks, textiles, etc. Willing to trade these items for bamboo. I'll have a comprehensive list in 4 weeks along with pictures. If interested send me a PM and I will send detatils next month.

I'll bite if you find a boo in my list you don't have.
I've got Nigra Othello. Chusquea valdiviensis but that won't be ready till spring, unless I can get some time to trade for another chunk or 2.
I get down to SJ about every 3 weeks and could do a non shipping trade.

With all your boo's, what is your take on the best for eating? I'm playing with the idea of selling shoots at the Farmers market? Besides my own eating. I have Dulcis, Atrovanginata, Moso(not great grower in my area yet) bambusoides, Henon, .. plus my others that I might try as they get large. I've eaten my henon and it was really good. Bambusoides should be 3-4 inches this spring.
40+ varieties; trying to stay close to that until I get them all in the ground. 1 + acre to grow on. 30 in the ground!

Bamboo4me - Will send you a list of items plus pictures in about 3 weeks.
We can go from there re trades. Also have about 85 potted plants. Can send a list if interested. The chusquea and othello sound good. Your idea to harvest shoots sounds interesting. I have no personal experience nor do I know which species work best. I'd check out Asian food specialty markets in San Jose to see if they have a need and/ or who they buy from. Not sure that the Farmers Market is a good route. I'd email the NCal ABS folks to see if they have any info on shoot harvesting plus do a Google Search. Rgds/happy holidays - Fred

I will do so and hopefully I will have some to trade myself. Most of my plants are kind of small yet, but they're getting there. I'm hoping the Melocanna baccifera will start to size up next year though I know this means putting it in a larger pot. :)

Was there anything on my list that you were interested in?

Also is a carved rootball one of the bamboo items you had for trade?

Bamboo4me - Check out the website Utility Research Gardeb on the internet. Click on "new stuff". He is selling shoots to eat. Claims he is the only one selling bamboo shoots grown in the states. Give him a call. Rgds
