Phy virella for sale

Post by needmore »

I have one pot of Phyllostachys virella that is currently in a shippable size but I am about to up-pot it soon as the rhizome is out of the drainage hole quite a bit. The division was dug in 2010 from a plant I obtained on my import trip in 2005. This bamboo appears very vigorous & hardy, looking much like Rubromarginata. Sorry, no trades and the price I am asking is mildly obnoxious  , I solicit here only to let collectors know of the availability of a rare species.

PM me if you have any questions.

Considering the rarity, if your price is only "obnoxious", count me in!

It's those "send a blank check" bamboos you really have to watch!

The plant is spoken for so I'm afraid that you'll have to hold your blank check for now, but I do anticipate a few more of some other species in the next couple of years.

Not much response when I originally posted this and thus I have not propagated it since.

Was probably just the price being high for most here at the time. As it got cheaper the regular Joes on here would probably start buying. If it's as cold hardy as you have shown I think this should be the 'go to' bamboo for cold climates. A little advertising and word of mouth on it I bet sales would be great. I'd certainly like some when you have extra. But I can't be paying collector prices so I wait until something is more readily available. I bet Steve would love some also.
