CJ's 25F may have been the low, but what was the overall weather pattern, how long did it stay below 32F - long enough for a hard freeze, was the plant exposed to direct sunlight with temps below 32F, was it windy during the freeze?
It could be bunk, but I think a given species of bamboo may be able to take severe temps for a few hours with moderate damage while the same plant may totally cook at higher temps but longer durations of freeze. I also think the opposite is true, species that have cooked at brief severe cold held up to 'warmer' deep freeze, as indicated by this past winter.

Brad,
What you say is true, but in 1989 we had 2 nights in a row of 24 F with mid 30's in between during the day. Even my B. oldhamii wasn't harmed and I don't agree with the Source List that da Buddha and da oldhamii are both rated at 21 F degrees. I've seen oldhamii killed back at Kanapaha Gardens in Gainesville while as Buddha Belly didn't seem to be hurt by it.

Well the mid 30's the next day/s may have been the key, perhaps CJ can remember if they stayed below 32F for 24 hours+
Back to the subject! my wamin has a couple nice little horns poking out!
it's in a pot that i lugged in and out this winter, looks like it was worth it now
The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.
I believe it did stay below freezing for the entire day for every other day it seemed - Mon-Wed-Fri it was below and the days were below 40 I know. and that went on for 2 weeks. They all look terrible. One in a planter has alot of leaves sprouting and 1 pencil sized shoot coming out. All the rest look like tumbleweed but I'll wait and see what happens. I gave the culms a little shake and they feel sturdy.
Take care

Phyllostachys aureosulcata has a short shoot poking up.
Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Spectabilis' is shooting like crazy and should produce a nice mini grove.
