HAVE- Petasites fragrans, WANT P. japonica
I have a P. fragrans, if any of you who have japonica want to try a different, smaller type. I would love to do a swap and get a start of the japonica!

Hv some 1 gal green onions (pjt). Need a couple of mths before shipping. No exchange necessary, just cover ship cost. Rgds

Trying to figure out what "green onions (pjt)" means...

pjt = pseudosasa japonica tsutsumiana better known as green onion bamboo.

Ah, I think Gene was talking about Petasites japonicus when he said "P. japonica", hence the confusion.

All the parasites here are the kind you don't want to have marry into your family!
Anyway, fred, I could use some more green onion, so when they are ready, I will take them, if you don't have other homes ready when they are. I can send you the $5 from that last chusqea shipping with it.

Will do. Just ship cost will do. How low a tmp has the las vigas had to endure? no info on min temps on this species so keep track for the species list. Probably won't ship until mid to late April. Rgds Fred

Fred,
Unfortunately the las vigas didn't make it. It was trying, but the shoots that it had just rotted, and then the living part of the plant followed suit. I probably should have un potted it and clipped off the dead part, but I didn't want to disturb it. The chusqeas seem to be harder to propagate, as the other one I got from you (don't remember off the top of my head which flavor it was) did the same thing.

The las vigas is tough. My propagation success rate has been abt 20%. I believe that it is the only chusquea runner. It sends an exceptionaly long rhizome out, and it's hard to locate mature roots developing from it. I sent one to our Washington State friend. I have to check up on it. I'll try to get you a replacement this summer. Rgds

Chusqeas seem to be hard to prop, gil had tried a couple of times off of his culeou for me, but no luck. I should have a great climate for chusqeas, just have to get some to get a foot hold!
If you get another division, let me know, I would love to try it again, but don't mangle your plant to do so, i'm sure it will be a greenhouse plant here on winter, so no hurry.

Gene - Looks like my runners are running 4 or 5 weeks behind normal shooting. What are you seeing? Getting pounded with another heavy, cold, windy storm today. Looks like we will be over 50" of rain (for the year) by the weekend. Rgds

Pretty much the same here. The entire property is a swamp, and the cold has not let up. Even the early shooters like F. rufa are still hibernating!
