Re: Exciting new bamboo's arrived
Although he mentions that they came together, I couldn't tell from his website but did you discuss with him whether or not he thinks the primontina & incarnata are the same bamboo?

Do yours look the same? My plant obtained as primontina even as a juvenile had leaves that were always slightly curled, I think David calls them canoes.

Re: Exciting new bamboo's arrived
I have messaged Stefan Koop,Jens Schutte and Jürgen Schmitz and with out talking for them, Stefan thinks they are different and look different to him,Jens said it's a discussion they often have on EBS-D and thinks there different, maybe different clones only and he has seedlings from primotina that flowered in 2013 in Munich, not Heard back from Jürgen as yet, it seem a bit of a grey area, have you got both Brad? Do you think there different? I have just planted mine in my bamboo nursery but I will look closely tomorrowneedmore wrote:Although he mentions that they came together, I couldn't tell from his website but did you discuss with him whether or not he thinks the primontina & incarnata are the same bamboo?

Re: Exciting new bamboo's arrived
This is what Jürgen said "P. primotina and P. incarnata are not the same plant. You can find the information that they are the same in one book, but here and in some other gardens in Belgium and in the Netherlands they are totally different"

Great choices. Happy growing.
Re: Exciting new bamboo's arrived
It does not matter much, but in this thread
http://www.bambooweb.info/bb/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7515
it was me (Steffen Greiner from EBS), Stefan Koop is also in the EBS-D
Jürgen, Jens, Stefan, and I, we all have the same opinion about the primotina/incarnata issue, although they are described as being the same plant in the "Flora of China" from 2006.
Best, Steffen

Re: Exciting new bamboo's arrived
Both good and sad to learn, I only have the Primontina but always wanted Incarnata so I thought perhaps I had it! As I said mine has slightly curled leaves so whichever that one is, I have it.

Primotina. And also the shape of the leaves should be different: long and less wide compared to other Phyllostachys.

Yes, long and narrow, the plant looks slightly stressed when not.
