The Fargesia scabrida has always been my earliest shooting Bamboo. Despite this cold recent event here on the Island it has been a warm late winter. Scabrida started shooting two weeks ago but very very slowing.

Well, you sent me out to look for 'Scabrida' shoots as they are usually first here too. Mine still barely breaking surface, did see 5 here though…

The scabrida I planted in Fall of last year is shooting, too! Just one for now. It was a pretty stressed division. Hopefully there are more shoots on the way.

Rufa is shooting, too, in its third season. Lots more shoots, but this one was the easiest to photograph.

Fargesia sp. 'Scabrida' just shooting now. It had a few fried leaves at the top caused by an extremely brief low of 0F back in late December. Best rated at +5F as it did not like 0F though it has tolerated that without burn in the past. No tip damage.

Looking fairly good though. For me it has the quintessential bamboo look so a favourite.
