Clumping Bamboo Footprint?

I have some Kanapaha and Chungii which seems to be slowly spreading out towards my house. Does this clumping bamboo eventually stop spreading out or will I need to put down a barrier. Thanks.

I'm in Gulf Shores and I think these pics are some of my Kanapaha.

Re: Clumping Black Bamboo in subtropical area

I'm in 8b or 9a and have one bamboo (Hirose) that I would consider marginal for my area and it has struggled for a few years. Some winters I think it's completely dead but somehow comes back but not much to show. I would love to have a good clumping black bamboo but I know better, ha ha. But my Kana...

Re: Bambusa oldhamii in colder areas?

I got some Hirose instead of the Oldhamii, after recommendations from "Booforyou" in Pensacola Fl. Said Hirose was slightly more cold hardy than the Oldhamii. I've had it for maybe 3 or 4 years and last year I thought it was dead as there were hardly any signs of life and this year there m...

Re: Newbie Zone 8b

Ophiuchus, have you seen that moso at Bellingrath Gardens? I know it's a little off topic but if you've never been there you should go, especially in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom.

Re: Newbie Zone 8b

My Kanapaha is doing well and takes the cold well but I don't think I have anything at the 2.5" dia. so far. Maybe close to 2" and maybe 30 ft. tall but that's what I have after about 4 or 5 years of growing these boo's. Danny has some very nice stuff but I guess it takes more patience and...

If we were one growing zone further south, I would bet it would make all the difference in the world, ha ha.

Re: Newbie Zone 8b

Danny says there's some large Oldhamii in Pensacola down around Bayou Texar I think is what he told me. Said it must be so healthy because it's right on the water and in the right place shielded from the North wind. Hope this helps.

Re: Newbie Zone 8b

Yep you are very close to me. I think it's Gracilis I have too. I got 2 good size clumps of it, very tight stalks. It does good with just a little brown during the coldest winters thus far. I also have Chungii which is pretty nice although it's a hard starter during the bad winters while young, but ...

Re: Newbie Zone 8b

I have Hirose which is supposed to be slightly more cold hardy than the Olhami and I can tell you it struggles. Have you visited "Boo for you" there in Pensacola? Danny would be a good guy to talk to. I got all my Bamboo from him. The Kanapaha is becoming my favorite so far.

Re: Charleston, SC experiment with tropical bamboo

Thanks for the post. I live on the Gulf Coast zone 8b or 9a and we've had 2 cold winters. My hirose looks pretty bad, but my Kanapaha and chungii is OK.
