Timor clumping Black Bamboo Won't Turn Black

I have several Timor Black bamboo plants that are 6 or more years old, 30 to 35 feet tall, and none of them has ever turned black. The parent plants I took these from were black and straight. I have planted several Bambusa Lako (Timor) field grown black bamboo a year ago. They were approx. 10 to 12 feet at time of planting.
