Re: Major Black bamboo flowering

Oooh noooo!!! I remember doing a lot of research last year (or 2 years ago?) before getting this one for my son's birthday. And now... :( I will check tomorrow for any sign of flowers. It had a few shoots this spring, being potted. I was hoping to move it into a bigger planter but I guess it's no us...

Re: Major Black bamboo flowering

Is Ph. nigra really flowering? Maybe just a few cases... isolated? Hopefully?

But I'd love some seeds too. Please, let us know if you get enough to spare. Not for free, of course.

Thank you.

Re: Henon flowering

So it would be safe to get a Henon division without the risk of having it flowering soon and then die?

Indeed, if we don't get rain, and soon!, I think we're going to be in a biiig trouble around here...

I'd watermark my pics if I'd have that many all over the www.

Re: 2013 ABS Auction

I've noticed some of the eBay sellers are nurseries so not all of the eBay sellers are scammers.

Re: The state of Connecticut eyeing bamboo for invasive stat

So beautiful! What murderer could've sprayed the plants by the fence? Not only the bamboo, but all the others... And the barrier is so obvious there.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Is Phyllostachys aurea edible?

As far as I know, all Phyllostachys shoots are edible, and almost all types of bamboo. If you're not sure of the ID, it could be safer to boil them.

Sorry I'm off topic, but I can see foxd that you have 16 ft tall Moso? Do you take divisions off of it? :)

Re: Need repotting - division needed too?

It's one piece with the rest of the rhizome, there were no twigs in the soil mix. I can't wait to see new shoots in spring. Thank you, jd.

Re: Need repotting - division needed too?

Is this one end of the rhizome or could it be a new shoot (which I doubt)?

Re: Need repotting - division needed too?

What type of compost would work the best for P. nigra, or bamboo in general? I've found this at Lowe's: http://www.lowes.com/pd_49674-11628-3207_4294707957%2B4294739166__?productId=3034293&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_qty_sales_dollar%7C1&facetInf...

Re: Need repotting - division needed too?

That's what I thought too. Way different to grow bamboo or other plants in the ground than in pots. Thank you, jd.
