So a few months later, did most of your Spectabilis end up fine?
I have some, but my zone is not as cold.

Re: Fungus or Pest Residue?
Old thread here.... but my (your) Nana mostly top died in the winter. Then grew back with a 7' cane. But during the summer, the leaves needle up everday. No matter the watering. 110° today, yet my other bamboos are unphased lol. It's very temperate. My Winters are too cold and summers too hot. Unles...

Fungus or Pest Residue?
I have inspected multiple days and unable to find any tiny insects hiding under/inside anywhere. I'm not convinced it's Mealy Bugs, but could be. Its not cob-web like. More like dry paint, flakes off. Perhaps sooty mold (I read it can be white also). Several Close ups: https://imgur.com/a/O3kHi41 I ...

Re: Bambusa nana
And here is that stubby single culm division about 11 months after planting. b nana 8 0221.jpeg Yours about tripled in size and canes in a year. Mine just got it's first new cane in 14 months lol. I read over the info on that link Saklo provided a few times, it's a bit overwhelming- so is the debat...

Re: 1 Year Transplant - 6 Bamboos
I've been wondering how you did with those plants. Nice work, too bad we destroyed the Damarapa. I hope that the B nana gets going, given that I almost threw it away it looks pretty darn good! My B nana here is blowing my mind with how fast it is sizing up and producing new canes quite regularly, I...

1 Year Transplant - 6 Bamboos
A year ago this week, some "stranger" online was giving away all his bamboo for free, so I picked up several varieties & sizes, as much as I could fit. Bambusa nana (Thai Beauty) Himalayacalamus falconeri (Damarapa) Phyllostachys aureosulcata (Spectabilis) Phyllostachys Vivax 'Aureocau...

Reading Bamboo Leaves and Dead Canes
Couple questions- 1) I have a brown cane that appears dead, but is still green at the bottom. https://imgur.com/a/ppTjHB3 Will it grow next spring, or is it just dead? 2) Can the leaves really tell you much about watering needs? I've seen lots of different info: -If leaves are curling sideways (leng...

Re: Can You Stake Clumping Bamboo to be more Upright?
Staking or using rope to make the bamboo more upright doesn't bother bamboo much. Come can be a bit delicate and like to have their roots shaded, which might be one reason of strong weeping habit of a bamboo, but you can make it more upright and keep the pots shaded. You can keep them right next to...

Re: Upright Extremely Hardy clumpers
Not sure when this chart was made, but it breaks down a lot of the best Fargesia's and their winter hardiness, there's a few missing but gave me a good basis: http://www.kimmei.com/images/bamboe%20t ... engels.jpg

Can You Stake Clumping Bamboo to be more Upright?
I have a 5 foot Oldhamii in a container. This is my first ever bamboo plant. We don't have groundspace, that's why a container. We want to move it against a fence when taller to block neighbors 2nd story window. 1) Once it's much taller we don't mind it weeping outwards. But for now, if the shoots s...

Is this Space too Small for Bamboo to Grow?
Wanting to use Bamboo against fence for privacy. Neighbors have a 2 story house that looks down into ours. Need about 12-14 feet of plant height. The space is around 13" wide of dirt between fence and sidewalk. (see pictures). Is that too narrow for clumping bamboo to grow? I don't know if thes...
