Re: Bamboo flooring -vs- Oak

Are there any updates on this topic? I'm thinking about installing some bamboo flooring and wonder if there's any new info. The stuff I'm looking at appears to be composed of 3 solid layers of bamboo glued? & pressed together. Needmore, do you remember if your flooring had aluminum oxide finish?...

Re: Cold Thur night

Get the leaves fried right away in winter; it takes all the wondering and worry out of it. :)

Re: Sasa tsuboiana

This is one of my favorites. It does great here. (I should say it does get killed back (topkilled) in winter but comes back by May-June.) It makes a lush, dense, dark green groundcover.

Re: Deep freeze in Deep South Texas

Ya, that's gotta be hard when the big plants get damaged. Here's some love for Sugar Land! Ironically, here we've so far had a pretty mild winter, with lots of snow. I actually may wind up with less winterkill than normal. Well, that is if I can get thru the rest of January and all of February witho...

We too usually get our coldest around the middle of January. It hasn't been all that cold here yet . Low tonight 1*F, above 0 forcasted. It could be a lot worse.

Yep, that's just what my bamboo sounds like shooting in the spring. Even the sheaths make thunderous sounds falling to the ground. :drunken:
Nice clip from the video Wild China!

Is that really in zone 5? Ya, it looks like nuda but more like zone 6 or warmer.

RE: chusquea sulcata

I have a couple plants I started from seed. The parent was in San Francisco where it thrived. In my climate, I bring them indoors in winter. They tolerate the indoors surprisingly well. They are soft like feathers(with hairy leaves) and fine textured. Light green, very graceful.

RE: LED Lights

I bought a couple bulbs: 1.5W (18LEDs) and 3.5W. Their light seems to tend toward the blue, especially compared to incandescent, but I like the cool light effect. The 3.5W works well in a recessed ceiling light.

Does anyone know if you can use a dimmer switch on these?

I've tried it too. Inserted into movies, you can get a slick effect panning across the whole image.

Foxd, it will be interesting to hear your report after -7F or so. That seems to be the survival threshold temperature for many. I think a few of us will be enjoying a big firecracker bonfire sometime early this spring.

The big purple monster is coming tonight. We're expecting -21F (-29C). We do have lots of snow tho, so my "perennial" bamboo should be tucked in fine. High tomorrow, -5F, is actually going to feel relatively warm.

RE: LED Lights

This is developing faster than anticipated. What color is the light? Is it close to natural light? How many watts do the bulbs use?
Thanks.
