Trying to get my container bundled up (attached pic)
Can I put bags of leaves on the top? Don’t want this to block the rain water from getting in

Re: Container vs planting in ground over winter
@needmore
I shouldn’t wrap foliage after a few hard freezes, rather if in single digits?
Also burlap is ok or rather a blanket?

Container vs planting in ground over winter
Is the best way to winterize bamboo in containers to dig them in the ground over the winter? Once in the ground, do you still need to cover them?
Location is ocean county NJ. Thank you!

Re: Bamboo growing sideways
Thanks for the advice. I should have asked this earlier because I really don’t like the sideways look, but better late than never. If I see in the future, I’ll dig them back under the soil.

Bamboo growing sideways
When I googled this, I saw some other results of this being normal, but wanted to confirm. Bamboo is in a planter and this fall (and summer), the culms are growing on a diagonal outward. It’s looking very messy and floppy. Are these rhizomes coming outward and then growing up as bamboo? Should I try...

Re: Winterizing a container
Hi, bringing this subject up Again. I was wondering if it’s a better idea to just pull the bamboo out of the container and digging it in a spare place in the ground over the winter and then I won’t have to worry about winterizing the container. What do you think? If i did do this, what time is the b...

Re: Mushrooms and mildew in bamboo container
Thanks for the reply. I’m glad to know about the mushrooms. I was frantic.
They pop up almost every day and I pick them out.
I’ll snap a pic of what the inside of the container looks like. The mildew is on the top layer of the mulch.

Mushrooms and mildew in bamboo container
I constructed my container very carefully to make sure I would avoid this. It’s open at the bottom for good drainage. The problem is that I planted cosmos in front of the container and they’ve completely taken the area! It blocks the sun from drying up the top layer of the mulch. The bamboo looks fi...

Re: Companion plant inside bamboo planter
I didn’t, on purpose, I left it open with wire for drainage. But I’ll be watching it closely. It’s raised off the ground, so I can peek underneath with a flashlight to watch. How long would you think it would take for it to push itself underneath? As I mentioned before I only have about 7-9 culms an...

Re: Companion plant inside bamboo planter
Great, thanks for your reply. Yes of course I will divide up as soon as it fills in. I have time until then, so far I only have about 7 culms in there. I’m not going to just let it explode! I put in a bamboo barrier inside the container so the roots don’t push their way into the wood and make it dif...

Companion plant inside bamboo planter
I’m new here and everyone’s been so helpful.
My new question: can I put a trailing/weeping plant inside my planter like a Dichondra silver falls on the side corner (inside) the planter to drape down the sides?
Will it disturb the root system?
Thanks

Re: Winterizing a container
When would you stop watering to avoid that?
And when do you take off tarp? Would you wait until official spring, or just until harsh weather passes?
