Re: Clumping Bamboo Footprint?
I find Chungii to be a very open clumper that tends to eat up space and will continue to expand the clump, my plan is to take divisions off to keep it where I want. The kanapaha for me was less open, but one day you'll have the same issue with it.

Re: Bamboo Experiment
A worthy experiment! I bet the cows will want to snack on it so the cages will surely be required! I've read multiple times that bamboo planted in berms like that tends to do very well. Good luck!

Bamboo rhizomes will indeed pierce a pond liner if given the chance to do so.

Re: Bamboo ID
Greetings, it's hard for me to say what you have, I think it most likely that it is Phy edulis, but in either case I think that the hardiness is quite similar between your 2 possible species based on my experience growing them both in USDA zone 5b/6a - most winters both would die fully back at my pl...

Re: red margin bamboo
But none of them can be planted in wet soils, they can be planted near wet soils and they might spread into them, but directly plant rhizomes in wet soils and I would expect them all to flunk...

Re: Hello
Tony, nice to hear from you! Although growing bamboo in the UK looks challenging, you can grow a wide range of species and forms so I look forward to any pictures you may post. Too bad that the forum at this point is all but dead, once upon a time it was quite vibrant but now hardly anyone remains s...

Re: Bamboo Shooting Above Ground
Here I can't dig any holes as I'm essentially on solid lava, so I have to plant in mounds. After reading about it, I filed away that I should be careful when I add more to the mounds, add to the diameter not the height so much, being careful not to just pile it up on the existing mound or what your ...

Re: Phy Propinqua ‘Beijing’ Flowering
Wouldn't Moso have large oral setae on young plants? Dunno, maybe Beijing does as well.

Re: Phy Propinqua ‘Beijing’ Flowering
I left my Indiana place in summer 2015 and my Beijing had been flowering then, I was considering it to be Li Yu Gan though and not Beijing but maybe both the same plant.

Re: Phy Propinqua ‘Beijing’ Flowering
Obviously I can't say what that is but juvy Moso shoots might not be hairy, I grew some from seedlings and they were not hairy for a couple years amd lots of them started out with narrow leaves that had white stripes, the stripes always faded away.
