You are correct Alan. I have some arrow bamboo that I planted at my folks house (zone 6) and I really enjoy the height. I was really hoping for something that was 8'+

Wanted: Most Cold Hardy Bamboo Zone 3/4
Hi Everyone. I know it is a stretch, but I am looking for some bamboo that can survives -30f. If that is not possible, maybe something that will experience top kill, but will grow back vigorously in the spring. I am looking for something that grows and spreads FAST as well. Re: RE: Any one have Hardy Kiwi's ??
I have had Artic Beauty for a few years now, and have not been able to entice it to grow much at all... the other crazy thing is that it always leafs out durring our premature warm up in the spring, and the late cold snap we usually get always kills off all the leaves. once the weather warms up it ...

I have a barn that I would like to grow them up. If anyone has any experience with them, please do share! Thanks and happy ...

Re: RE: old growth trees?
I've read in an article that you can stop the nutrient uptake of trees by removing a ring of bark and skin around a tree to kill it . I might give that a try on a few trees because if the roots die, they don't suck up any more moisture. It will still be hard to get the bamboo to spread because of s...

RE: Hello All!!! New member here! Who else lives in zones 3
What is the largest (in culm diameter) that can be grown up in you neck of the woods Bill? We do a lot of logging up here, and use the wood (cherry) for doing our floors and other projects. I would love to be able to get some large species of bamboo going for the future since it is so sustainable. I...

Hey folks!!! Yes, it does indeed get to -30 in parts of NY.... I am a stones throw from the CA boarder. I live in Potsdam NY, and have seen a few winters where it doesn't get above 0 for 2-3 weeks on end! But what is nice about this, is that once we get snow, it never leaves. So that provides protec...
