I've had success with Moso 'Anderson Clone'. It has some burning this winter, but that's rare. Culms are up to about 4" in diameter.

I find the Anderson Moso is noticeably hardier. Any bamboo becomes hardier with age, but Anderson has not frozen back even in the low single digits. It doesn't windburn too much either.
