Re: B Castillon flowering
It looks like the whole grove is flowering and many of the leaves are yellowing. The grove was probably flowering before the snow. I checked the B. Madake grove near it and it's ok

B Castillon flowering
Iv'e been AWOL for awhile here, so much work and so little time. Had to do a lot of cleanup after a heavy unseasonal snow and had to do a double take. Discovered this a few days ago, B.Castillon flowering like crazy. This could have been going on for a month or more, I haven't been able to get out i...

MOSO
As usual Moso shooting first. Not really upsizing, but have more than 80. I expect about 30 or more will abort. So far I'm just under 2.5". The good news is that the grove its'self is getting denser and can protect it from late frosts.

Vivax Aureocaulis changing
Vivax changing. 3 years ago, my Vivax Aueocaulis started putting up a few Haungwenzu shoots. This year it added a Haungwezu Inversa. A freind several miles away has an all green in his V.Auero grove. I have several half and half but I think that's just the nature of the V.Arueo.

Re: What is the best EATING type of bamboo available in US?
P. Atrovaginata is my favorite. I also harvest lots of P. Dulcis, and P.Vivax. I have eaten P. Aueosulcata and it's really good. I'm only growing that in containers so I don't get anything big enough to eat. Dug my first Vivax shoot yesterday and had stir fry. YUMMM

Re: Shoots Spring 2016
Dulcis is a vigorous grower here although not shooting yet. The grove size is about 25X50. The largest culms are only a little over 2 inches but that is because I dig several hundred pounds of shoots each year usually the earliest and biggest. Dulcis, like Moso and Madake doesn't do well potted for ...

Re: Shoots Spring 2016
Brad, I bought this as a 2 gallon plant from Bamboo garden in Oregon 14 years ago. 2 years after I bought it I asked that very question to Ned jaquith, He said he couldn't be sure of what (batch) it came from. All things considered I think it's a pretty hardy pick. As a side note I have a very fond ...
