Re: Seeds available
Brad, I just received reply from a German bamboo grower that has Phyllostachys fimbriligula and he said it's not flowering.

Re: Seeds available
And people say all bamboos are the same. So it might really be glauca related and they are both prone to stress induced flowering. Perhaps it's not even stress induced but rather sporadic flowering which gives seeds in low quantity or in special environmental conditions (stress) which coul...

Re: Seeds available
It is not. I'm sure they are growing it in European countries that are more bamboo friendly. I'm quite certain we have none in my little country. :P I would love to try seeds, though. But if it's stress induced, flowers could abort prematurely or have low viability. What's even cooler with many spec...

Re: Variegated oak
That looks like a virus. That was my first thought as well. I checked it closer and it looked way too healthy and the white patches are very similar to other variegated trees. All the damage to the leaves happend during and after I dug it out. I'm keeping it away from other trees in a pot just in c...

Re: Seeds available
ShmuBamboo. Is it possible there were birds eating ripening seeds? I have unimaginable numbers of birds inside my bamboo and they could (would) easily decimate the seeds. Sparrows are the worst. Whole grove is moving around dawn and dusk. Since the seed I got from fredgpops sprouted, it must be viab...

Variegated oak
I have found a variegated oak this year. It's going to lose the leaves soon, so I took a photo. I hope variegation returns next year. It would be interesting to see it grow. The main issue is that it's most likely prone to sunburn and will have to be placed somewhere in the shade. IMG_20200921_18131...

Re: Seeds available
Now you're just showing off :D :drunken:  If the seeds are still firm and hard, not mushy and soft. they are likely still ok. Especially Chusquea gigantea which needs quite some time to start sprouting. Keep it up and check the seeds (I use sprayer to uncover the seed and check it, if it d...

Re: Seeds available
No additional germination of other seeds yet. This one grows quite fast though.

Re: Seeds available
Thank you. I keep them inside at room temperature. Slightly above 20°C. I use very soft substrate with plenty of organic matter and nice amount of perlite to further aerate the substrate. Since it's soft and 'fluffy' , seeds could be sown a bit deeper, especially because water retention of thi...

Re: Seeds available
My magic germination method is a system of a couple of things. With valuable seeds I always try to: 1 - Clean up the seeds (take out empty ones, non-ripe or evidently damaged seeds. I try germinating some of those that still have potential seperately) 2 - Use sterile soil mix (I use at least some pe...

Re: Seeds available
Good luck!
Fresh seeds should sprout very quickly. One to two weeks most of Phyllostachys I've grown. Older seeds can be slower, but these are fresh. I think I've seen one of my sprouting already! It is the only henon seed I have.

Re: New planted phyllostachys in pots (photo). Future?
Did it break the pot before get root bound? I'll try to divide before reaching a deformed pot point. And I hope the pot resist the first rhyzome attacks It was getting root bound, but it happened in less than 2 years. Not yet densely packed root mass, just strategically pointed and fixed ( by two p...

Re: New planted phyllostachys in pots (photo). Future?
I tried similar a while ago. Bamboo ripped through the plastic, it's just too soft. It needs to be HDPE.
