RE: bamboo formal trimmings

I know with tropicals they let the new growth reach full height before they cut them back to size. But, I've only seen hedges like this...

RE: Correlation between first shoots and in ground/container

I think what mantis was trying to say with that picture, which probably is the most popular picture on the sight , is that you have nothing to worry about. I put straw/manure mix on my species each year. When they were starting out, they easily shot through 6 inches of that, so yours should be ...

RE: Winter bamboo pics...:-)

Mark,
what is the species of succulent that looks like a yucca in the second to final picture? I saw those same species in flordia, and it seems odd that they can grow to that size in your climate.

Great pics by the way! (and I agree with Thuja, I dont see damage :) )

RE: Infrared thermometer to find and create microclimates?

Haha! I have an image of myself searching at night with a IR "gun" for the hottest spot on my property... :D I have tried to idenify my microclimates, and the best luck I have had is: Highest elevation, not the windward side of the property(west -> east) and protection from other plants du...

RE: Bamboo Board Article

I just realized that someday someone is going to write an article about bamboo illustrated with both Lucky Bamboo and Koala Bears.
...and that will be the day that we'll realize that our marketing strategy has failed. and/or people are just that silly.

RE: Deer

Considering I live in town, the police take a dim view of people wandering the neighborhood shooting at deer, even if they are in season. (with hick voice: ) "Thats why I live in Brown County!" Deer over here usually go for leaves...I have seen damage on a few of my species, but usually o...

If that link works, I have zoomed right onto the grove. The "Barn" is farther to the west from where Dan was um....pointing.

RE: Another Indiana A. Gigantea sp.

I think the USDA maps are incorrect. I have seen maps that do not include Indiana on their list. Foxd- I didn't see a creek, the plant was on a fence row...however there is a small dip, but nothing like a monroe/brown county creek. it is really flat country down there. (compared to home :) ) Brad- I...

Another Indiana A. Gigantea sp.

Yes, the epic continues... :D Today I stopped 1/2 mile west of the IND 256 and IND 3 junction to see the largest bamboo grove I have ever seen. It is all Arundinaria Gigantea with the largest culms topping out around 14 feet. What is amazing about this grove is the diameter of the culms (1/2-1"...

RE: Aurea or mixed grove? Or?

Just a thought, but could the plant be "stunting" itself on purpose because due to so much water in its soil it's afraid of falling over?

RE: Aurea or mixed grove? Or?

Hey Bamboo4me, I looked through some of your pictures, and I would bet money that its Aurea. Just the compressed nodes on the lower portions and the enlarged culm below each node (similar to what needmore said). I read once that the "tortoise shell" mutant off of moso because of environmen...

Yes, Mary Kay does has an entire line-up of products. My mother used to be in sales for them. The person who ranted about her products however wasn't part of Mary Kay...and I forget who she was with. :? who knows. :)

RE: Bamboo Hair Conditioner

I had a conversation with several people about the beauty-line products that also have bamboo extracts. Mark Kay came out with a whole line of products based on bamboo. For once, someone else lectured me on bamboo...only they didn't know what they were talking about. :D haha, just kidding.
