Does anyone else grow these plants?
I overwinter them under the eaves of my house, and use alot of slug repellent in spring. Other than that they do great here. Starting to get lots of flowers this year.
Delosperma Sutherlandii
Delosperma Floribundum 'starburst'
Delosperma Congesta 'gold nugget'

Re: Ice Plants
Funny you should ask as I saw one last Tuesday at the rock garden of the Nova Scotia Chapter of the N. American Rock Garden Society in Truro, NS. The head gardener told me which one it was but can't recall the name though it may have been Golden Nugget that JWH showed above. Truro is certainly one of the coldest spots in all of NS, maybe Z5a and in 1993 nearly hit -40c but warm in the summer too. This ice plant takes it all, snow or no snow, only if growing in scree conditions.

Re: Ice Plants
Cp - Buddy in the Valley here says D. basuticum was the real shiner here as it tolerates wetter winter weather as we are prone.
JWH - Have you tried that one?

Re: Ice Plants
No, but I want to get D.Bausticum 'white nugget', as I dont have a white flowered ice plant.
I was reading that D.Sphalmanthoides is very cold hardy, It grows in alpine areas of south africa, in winter rain/snowfall areas. Slow growing and only gets 20-30cm wide. Mine has doubled in size after a year, but is still quite small at 11x8cm

Re: Ice Plants
I've never grown these before, but they look like a mix between sedums and sempervivums so I would imagine that they would be fairly hardy too.

Re: Ice Plants
OK so case closed - the one at the NS Chapter rock garden and the D. basuticum a friend in the Valley recommends are probably the same thing - Golden Nugget. In fact friend spoke out in Denver awhile back and he may have been given it by Panayoti at the BG and in turn gave it to the Rock Garden here.
