Dahlia imperialis

Went to the Annapolis Valley last week and dropped in to see how the Dahlia imperialis "seedlings" were doing. They are just over 18 months from seed and you can see the growth they made this year from the point where they were cut back last autumn. They came into flower in mid Novemeber just when it flowered in Ireland outdoors. Always perilously late.

Really exotic looking John. I have seen one before at a friends house but I'm not to sur if it has ever flowered for him at his Victoria home. Frost seems to knock it to the ground befor it gets to it's glory.

Seems to be the case in most of North America and the UK, not enough warmth that late in the year to push the buds along. One for California or the deep South I guess.

+9c and upwards of 150mm of rain over the next day or more.
