Hey gang,
Can you bury bamboo lying down with leaves exposed and have it root at the nodes?
I would like to try this with some of my clumpers. If I try it I will post pics.
All the best,
Ryan

I'm having some success doing this with sub tropical clumpers although I've mostly ended up cutting them between the nodes to make it easier to lay them down the way I want. Temperate clumpers though, I can not speak to. I snip all branches just a bit above the first branch node and mostly remove the leaves. The branches quickly fire at the buds on the nodes I left and if all goes well over time roots develop underground at the branch junction.

I am trying it on java black bamboo now, but haven't seen any signs of growth from the nodes after a month. The only way this is possible is if there are dormant root buds at the base of the branches which you might be able to tell by pulling back the sheaths. Can't hurt to try.
