Nice photos. If only those bamboos can grow well in zone 5...
I wish someone would try to genetic engineer some super cold hardy bamboos that can grow really tall. I don't see why this can't be done. Different bamboo species already have various degree of cold tolerance. If we can figure out how bamboo protects itself from cold damage, then it should be possible to manipulate its DNA to enhance this attribute.
