Want to cry about my oldhami

Post by kate1song »

All of a sudden within a few days. My 7 years beautiful group of Oldhami started to yellow and whither. It's effecting almost all of the group of culms and i think my beautiful bamboo is going to die. I am so incredibly sad.

Candy for gophers. Where are you located? Location is also a factor. What's the sun/shade status?
Oldhamii is susceptible to cold and wind - it shoots in fall/winter so it is easily stunted. Rgds

I don't know about the herbicide sabotage. I haven't sprayed anything and the house next to me is abandoned. I live in Florida on the Gulf Coast near Tampa.

That's strange my Oldhammis shoot early summer to late summer. Bambusa tend to be herbicide resitant but it does seem that you have an outside influence affecting thm if the have been happy there for seven years. some sort of chemical or herbicide.

Can you post some pictures? Perhaps it might be something else. Dig around if there are tunnels below. If it's established plant (should be after 7 years) voles, gophers or any kind of underground vermin would need some time to completely eradicate the bamboo. It would start shooting small shoots from any remaining viable rhizome. I hope it will make it..

You have many tropical bamboo nurseries in Florida. They are the best resource to identify and resolve your problem. Another source is the American Bamboo Society. My guess is that they have a area branch in Florida. There is a list of ABS locations on their website. I had a major infestation a few years ago and sent photos to bamboo nurseries. Almost all responded with cause and solution.

Is it possible that you are experiencing salt water intrusion?
