Last summer a couple of Red Shafted Flickers decided to drill holes in some of my best Vivax to roost in. The birds are no longer with us but neither are those vivax culms. The first hard wind busted every one that had a hole. Maybe the birds are getting even for all the BB gun carnage of my youth. Iv'e already had to cover all the vents on the house with heavy wire to keep them out.

My tenant just patched 22 holes in one end of my house, I had patched it in July as well. Hairy Woodpeckers are the culprit on mine.
