My new bamboo collection consists of a single species I believe to be Bambusa ventricosa. I acquired this with my new house so I know nothing about it other than it has been neglected, mite infested, and was fully covered with a native rampant fern - uluhe, fully congested in the middle with years of it's own leaves and sheathes. I wish I had a before picture, only some leaves on the outside were visible, the center of the clump completely hidden in the dense uluhe fern growth. My original plan was to kill it off and start over, I forced my head into the center of the clump and saw a very large new shoot and several nice culms. It is doing so well as a neglected plant I am trying to thin the center of the clump and limb it up a couple of feet but right now I only have bypass pruners so I can't do it properly until my tools arrive - the branches are just too hard for the pruners. I now think that feeding this guy and finishing the clean might result in a nice bamboo.

Here is the cleanup pile...

Those last 2 shots before the pineapple -- really pretty for a neglected bamboo!

Also, you can barely tell from the photos that you've moved to a new place, so glad you mentioned it. ;)

Incredibly find and sweet view. We'll be neighbors when my youngest graduates from college in two years.
