Not only have I seen "The Day After Tomorrow", I 've also seen "Absolute Zero", a movie full of bad climatology, bad acting, bad architecture, bad physics, bad archeology, bad thermodynamics and just plain bad. A movie in which the actors instinctively know which direction is North, so can tell when a compass is pointed in the wrong direction. A movie where buildings are built with doors leading out to multistory drops for no reason. A movie where doors leading out to multistory drops are left unlocked for no reason. A movie where the polarity of the Earth is reversed to make the equator frozen and the poles tropical. Oh yes, and during this change parts of the Earth have to drop in temperature to absolute zero for no good reason.
Ok, I'm 1/3 of the way through this epic movie, and am having a hard time forcing myself to continue watching it. I guess I'll flip through the channels, and if there is nothing exciting on I'll press the Play button for some more "excitement".

Well, I did say it was a bad movie, full of bad science and logic.

I watched "Black Sheep" and "Fido" over the weekend. "Black Sheep" is about flesh-eating mutant sheep in New Zealand, sort of a violence-of-the-lambs type movie. And "Fido" is sort of like "Lassie" only they replaced the dog with a zombie. Both were far better movies than "Absolute Zero".

note: Sven takes "Absolute Zero" out of his Netflix queue. He isn't sure about "Black Sheep" and "Fido" going in at this time however... =D

I fell asleep with 15 minutes left in the movie. I'll probably finish watching it tonight. I don't think Fido and Black Sheep will find their ways into my queue.

So, who is still shooting??? I have a new shoot on B. lako that is less than a week old, and also both my B. doli. 'Green Stripes' have shoots that are still pushing towards full height. One of my D. minor 'Amoenus' put up a new shoot 2 weeks ago, so that is still gaining height. My B. tuldoides also has some shoots that are still getting taller.

I did lose shoots on B. vulgaris 'Wamin Striata' and D. latiflorus 'Mei-nung' within the last couple of weeks.

My Guadua amplexifolia has a shoot that I can't tell if it is still growing, or is going to abort... I'll keep watering it and put it in as much sun as possible, but I think even if it does continue to grow that it won't survive the winter, since it won't have any chance to harden before cold temps arrive. I really want my greenhouse to arrive before I head to MN for Christmas...

A lot of my B. oldhamii shoots are still trying to figure out what to do. The rains came late and with less frequency this Summer. I have B. oldamii shoots about 40 tall and they look confused and kind of suspended in animation since they did not get enough water to fulfill there desire to be much taller. Very dry here on the SunCoast.

I don't know why it decided to do it, but I noticed a tiny new Sasa veitchii shoot yesterday. :?

Just looked down and there it was.

Last week viridis and nuda were shooting, and this week I noticed a lithophila shoot. Broke off the viridis and lithophila, but let the nuda grow as it seemed unimpaired by 20* temps. Just thought it would be fun to see how long it lasted.

My Oldhamii, nigra, nigra "daikokuchiku" and my rubro are all currently putting up new shoots. Amazingly they are still going after the hard frost and 28* that we had last week! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Shoots - heck - with the 7*f temps we had the other night I'll be lucky to have all my plants survive.

To my amazement, I have a shoot starting on my "bought my seeds off of e-bay, supposed to be b lako"!! Seeing as we have had a few hard frosts, with temps in the 20's, in the past few weeks I NEVER expected it! Late Christmas/early new years present! Ha Ha! Hopefully it will pull through the hard frost, low 20's expected on Wednesday!

Since we had a heavy frost last night, I decided to see how the supposedly cold hardy "Buddha Belly" was doing. I was rather surprised to see that a shoot had emerged since the last time I checked it. Of course the cold had killed it and it was beginning to soften.

Ok, just finished watching Black Sheep. Wow. Wasn't as bad as Cloverfield, but I don't think I'll watch it again.
