Today I found the first shoots from my Phyllostachys aureosulcata, they were delicious.
Leaves are starting to sprout on the Phyllostachys aurea 'Holochrysa', Arundinaria gigantea and Pleioblastus pygmaeus.

boonatick,
I know what you mean. My moso last year was about 3/8 of an inch in diameter and about 4 1/2 ft tall for the largest shoots. This year I have many shoots and 2 of them are at least 1 inch in diameter.

Yup, here's a couple pics of my seedlings. The one that is totally top killed is from midatlanticbamboo.com. Apparently their Moso seedlings are less hardy.

I've lived in Florida for over 30 years now and I'm not used to seeing the trees with no leaves on them. Reminds me of my old Mississippi days and squirrel hunting in Autumn. "Autumn"! Now that's a word I haven't used in a very long time.mshaffer wrote:Yup, here's a couple pics of my seedlings. The one that is totally top killed is from midatlanticbamboo.com. I found the first shoot of the year from the Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Spectabilis'. This brings the number of species shooting to seven.

I can finally say that I have bamboo shooting this year.
The plants that are shooting are Pleioblastus viridistriatus 'Chrysophyllus', Pl. fortunei, and Sasa veitchii.
In the greenhouse Phyllostachys kwangsiensis also has a shoot.
We are still getting lows into the lower 20*F so I don't want to many tender shoots poking out of the ground.

All the usual suspects are doing their thing.
I was particularly happy to see my total top kill D.Strictus
has a small shoot.
