I planted Heteroclada, Atrovaginata, and Nidularia in an area that can get very wet at times. All survived this very wet winter, but I am most impressed with Heteroclada. Its roots stayed immersed in water the entire winter; yet it survived, and is now happily shooting. It's worst threat this winter was a rabbit that nearly ate it to the ground.
The other two also survived and are shooting, but they were not immersed in water the whole time.
I also have YG in this area. Some of it seems to do OK, some of it doesn't, and some has died.
I also have some Nigra that stayed very wet, and it seems to be doing OK. One plant had the misfortune of being planted in a slight depression that captured runoff, and it stayed wet most of the winter. Somehow it survived. I was very surprised.
All of these plants had a solid root mass when planted. A Parvifolia that I got from Bamboo Garden Center (big mistake, not recommended) had virtually no root mass, was also immersed in water, and died.
