Bambusa venticosa flowering

Post by marcat »

One of my B. ventricosa's that i thought was killed by our bad freeze last winter is flowering. Maybe the stress of the freeze?

I dug out mine when I bought this place and found later that some of the sections of root mass with culm stumps that I had tossed away were shooting - these were 100% bare root in full sun and started shooting. So I picked up 10 of them, tossed them in pots and threw some mulch on them. They are still alive and are starting to shoot but today I noticed that 1 of the 10 pots is flowering. So mine could also be stressed induced, or this guy is just plain starting to flower.

Brad any viable flowers. I haven't been pay much attention to mine but will check them all tomorrow. one of the clones comes from a plant put in the ground in the early sixtys just after hurricane Carla in Seadrift Tx. it should be old enough to start flowering.
