My friend sent me this picture he took. I believe that he took it at a botanical park in the San Diego area. Just wondering what it is.

Do you have a copy of Ted Meredith's "Bamboo for Gardens"?
Your friends photo looks like the Vivax on the cover taken from another angle. On the book you can also see that bench in the background.

Another possibility would be Phyllostachys makinoi. I have been to Quail and their Ph. makinoi is one of the larger groves that you can walk through. Eric
