Variegated oak

Post by Tarzanus »

I have found a variegated oak this year. It's going to lose the leaves soon, so I took a photo. I hope variegation returns next year.
It would be interesting to see it grow. The main issue is that it's most likely prone to sunburn and will have to be placed somewhere in the shade.

That was my first thought as well. I checked it closer and it looked way too healthy and the white patches are very similar to other variegated trees. All the damage to the leaves happend during and after I dug it out.

I'm keeping it away from other trees in a pot just in case. I will see what happens next year. I could try to infect another seedling by inoculating part of the plant tissue. Green lower laying leaves are suspicious, but it could be just low light while under leaf litter.
