First Deer with a BOW

Post by jordanM »

I have been trying for quite some time to get a deer with a bow, 4 years to be exact. I have injured 2 deer in my attempt and havent got one.

On saturday i went out and a little befour 6 i heard some crunching so i watched and out walked a buck. As sson as it got where i could shoot it it put its head down in the goldenrod and started eating weeds. I pulled back and wham got him. The arrow went right down him and he only ran about 30 yards.

Here he is, almost a 7 pointer but he broke his main beam off on the right side so it is a 6:

It's a shame you had to Injure two before you got a kill......I hate to see animals suffer needlessly.

jordanM,
Congrats! It is a much more satisfying feeling to bring em home with a bow. If I ever get back into hunting it will only be archery (unless my son gets into it) - just too darn easy with a gun.

Even rifle hunters lose injured animals - if you put a good amount of practice in and take shots that you know you can make, don't sweat it. You'll lose a few here and there and it makes you feel bad, but unfortunately that is part of bow hunting.

Good broadheads are worth the money......

I always thought it would be interesting to kill one barehanded. Like jump out of a tree right on top of one and see how that goes.

That is not nearly as much fun as it sounds.

My Bamboo List.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

Lance it wont be the horns(antlers) that get you but the hoofs. Texas usually has few fatalitys a year from deer attacks. Most are traceable to human raised bucks. Deffinately a No No.
Congrats Jordan.

I like hunting too. The phone company monopoly kept gouging me and was so damn hard to shoot. but I finally I killed them with Magic Jack via usb cable to computer and my cable connection. Now if I can just see a good place where to shoot my cable bill but these animals are very smart. Will take some time probably.

Perfect bait in the woods for bucks.

Is it illegal to shoot a buck from your living room?

Lance's technique of jumping out of a tree onto the deer seems perfectly legal to me, you might try that. With any luck you could end up on Discovery channel or something.

Just looking at the photo of lance with his prized bamboo he captured, you can tell he is a great hunter!
