What's your favorite snow shovel?

Post by jpluddite »

Hi guys.

I hope ya'll are doing well and that your new year is happy and healthy.

I like snow and even enjoy the shoveling, but I noticed a couple days ago that my current shovels are on their last legs. The metal one is so dinged that it's only useful for scraping, and the plastic one (which I inherited) is falling apart.

So, what's your favorite snow shovel? Any favorite, non-motorized, techniques for efficiently removing the white stuff?

I bought this shovel a few weeks ago it was on sale for 12.99 i wish i would have bought a few more and if they are on sale again i will buy another it is light yet strong and worked great for pushing and scooping even the super heavy wet snow we just had . I only used it for three snowfalls so far but it seems well built.http://www.truevalue.com/product/18-Inc ... ly%20green

My favorite one I put a LONG custom bamboo pole handle on, all store bought shovels are too damn short for me making me clinch my back awkwardly, so the bamboo pole lets me stand more upright and then I get good flex to fling the snow farther; despite that we've had so damn much snow this week I had to switch to the way wider bladed back-hurting one. I have to replace the pole about every year or two, pre-drilled holes in the pole and screws w/wing nuts hold it pretty well. I shovel 1/10 of a mile of gravel driveway and LOTS of decks and I'm sick of it the wet 13 inches Weds was horrid to deal with, took 9.5 hours of shoveling - whose snow am I getting, more this week than the last 2 years combined, more tomorrow - I'm over it, whoever is missing this snow please take it back. Me and the bamboo are in very rough physical shape right now, hopefully we can both spring back up.

Wow, Brad. That sound horrific!

Can you post a picture of your homemade shovel? What kind of bamboo works best for that handle?
