I am trying to find a home for a good size Dendrocalamus strictus that I had to pull out of the ground 2 months ago. If I can't find a home for it I am going to put it through my wood chipper to make some mulch. So that is the trade, 1 strictus for 1 bag of mulch (cheap natural stuff that is like $1.50 from Home Depot).
I have no way of transporting this plant, so if you want it you'll have to come to Sugar Land to get it.

Hopefully someone in Houston or south of there wants it, but let me know before you put it in the chipper.
I am reasonably sure it would be a die-back perennial here. If it does survive, it may get smaller, more numerous, shoots which would be easier to divide and donate to Mercer or the TBS.

If I still have it by next weekend I'll top it at 8' to fit it in my wife's Jeep, and bring it to the Mercer bamboo meeting.

I have one about 40 feet tall and about 6 years old. It is pretty big. The hurricane pulled it up. The interesting thing is that most of it is still alive and doing fine even though it is on its side.
Need a nice long fence line of D. Strictus... come on down... bring monster truck. This one is fairly straight and pretty nice as D. Strictus goes. The freeze of 2004 didn't touch it at all.
Again... bring BIG truck. I tried to move it with my 3/4 Ton Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel... couldn't budge it.
You could hack it up and have over 40 culms to start a fence line.

Yay! One strictus down, one to go... My remaining one is only 7' tall, so I'll throw it in the jeep to bring up to Mercer next Saturday.
It was nice meeting you Arachnotron. The strictus should do well on your side of town. Hopefully the baby boo I sent home with you turns out to be something nice.

Thanks again, Mike. I need to decide where to plant it now...
