I bought a 'Prominens' from the fall 07 ABS auction, but it may or may not be the "real" prominens. This is the plant I want.
Any takers?
Regards,
David

Hi David , the plant in the pic - is it supposed to be prominens because it's very, very different to the plants grown here under that name, the shoots are just a plain brown sort of colour and very different from the white/cream sort of dulcis look shoots in the pic..
Bamboo...Please note... This plant is seriously addictive and you may lose interest in other, less rewarding plants!

Hello Mark,
I got the pic from this site. Here is where the photo came from. Photo used with permission from Otto @ www.bambusarium.de, Germany.
I have never seen a mature prominens first hand so I just went by what is posted. It looked very much like dulcis to me too but I just thought maybe they looked similar. Tell me about yours, and do you have a picture? Thanks.
David

Now that's what I'm takin' bout, nice size up
OK - That's the one I want .
Thanks for the info Mark. I'm hoping the one I have will put up something big enough next season to at least give a clue as to its authenticity (or lack of). Just regret missing a growing season if I don't have the correct one.
Thanks again.

David, I think my Prominens is Bissetii, perhaps Humilis but another spring should tell. Too bad they are going gangbusters and over 6 feet tall with multiple canes. JvDP has 3 of the real deal he is holding for me but as of yet we have not figured out how to get them here.

Looks like the plant in Davids link has also been mixed up, 'cause it don't look like Prominens to me

Brad/Mark,
Looking at the pic of prominens it appears that it has a black line beneath the nodes. If this is the case then what I have is very likely bissetii as Brad mentioned. Too bad. I really wanted prominens. Maybe next year.

Well, has any of the supposed "Prominens" had swollen nodes? This is the entry in Ohrnberger's book. (Slightly edited to avoid accidental Emoticons.)

Ohrnberger's book seems to be very cautious in the tolerance values listed.rfgpitt wrote:-7*C = 19.4*F
