Looking for some free bamboo

Post by elvimiller »

I am in zone 5, Michigan. I would like to grow bamboo to use the canes for supports in my veggie gardens. I have done some research on buying it locally but it is about $50 a small pot here. Does anyone have excess to send me some to plant. I can pay shipping via paypal.

I have parvifolia rhizomes, but

You might be able to try needmore who lives in southern Indiana and you might be able to do a road trip to get several species. I'm sure he has a lot to spare if he has over 140 species.

I can send you some rhizomes if you're interested. PM me or email (click my user name and there should be a way to send me an email) if you're interested.

Note that it will take at least three years before you'll be able to start harvesting canes, maybe more.

There's even a place closer called Michigan bamboo which might be less than an hour drive to get to for you.
