brrrr,

26 degrees this morning @ 7:30.
at my house anyway. some of the wunderground stations in the area were @ 19.
i know some of you northern folk would consider that a warm spell about now. but for us it is pretty cold. lots of citrus damage. my sensitive boos are still covered although the cat half unwrapped the lako and brandisii. i expect they will be ok.

It got down to 35*. Brought into the garage about 50 potted boos. Covered a few in ground plants but overall I think everything is ok, except for some wind damaged leaves & 1 wind snapped chungii culm.

How did you fare Roy?

Hello almost neighbor:) 26 here also in Inverness. The bamboo seems fine but the rest of the yard looks very depressing.

In late August 08 I had 15 Gigantochloa atroviolacea culm cuttings started under a clear plastic tent with a bookshelf size $20.00 space heater. Out of that bunch, looks like 5 have taken hold, still growing good and putting out leaves still. The space heater has been on thermostat and has keep them toasty since late August so they still think it is summer time in Indonesia!

My tall Gigantochloa atroviolacea in the yard has leave damage I am not expecting culm damage but we shall see this spring if it will leaf back out.

supposed to hit 29 tonight. 'wamin' too big to cover looks terrible leaves curled and browning already. hamiltonii still green but leaves droopy and slightly curled. lako older shoot looks ok but this years is gone. cardboard palm is black as are staghorn ferns and dwarf red bananas. carambola leaves shriveled and crispy. sinicus has some tip burn. avocados have some damage, mango looks awful.even some of the citrus trees show damage. i hate winter.(except during vacations). makes spring more exciting though.

Mike,

No problems at my house. I stayed up late the last 2 nights watching the wind direction. When it started coming out of the North, rather than the Northwest, then I went to bed. If the wind is coming out of the North or Northeast, then the winds come across Egypt Lake and keep the temperatures up at my place.

Well it hit 26 here in west central Florida( Lithia 9a)

My 10 year old asper is toast as well as my 23 year old Vulgaris and 4 year old Wamin

everything else did fine.

Please let me know is Nana is more cold hardy than than above as well as Parker Giant and the Quail Clone or any other timber bamboo not common. Looking for more additions that are just a few degress more cold tolerant than Asper and Vulgaris
I am thinking about buying a Large gas water Heater and Tieing it into the sprinkler system for those 2 or 3 days a year that fall below 32
cheers and later Bamboo dudes

Parker Giant is happy and green in Orlando, not one bad leaf. Looks as if it can take even lower temps than what we are getting, so at least that is good news.

Quail Clone sorry to say has crispy leaves so might do better under trees.

brandisii has crispy leaves, to large to cover.

otatea acuminata aztecorum, Bambusa emeiensis 'Viridiflavus', pervariabilis 'Viridistriatus', Dendrocalamus
minor 'Amoenus' , ventricosa, kanapatabilis, chungii, and oldhamii and more have zero damage.

Love to hear a report on NANA! Anyone?

Mike - 'Nana' didn't bat an eye @ 35* w/ below 30* wind chill but that doesn't say how it will do below freezing. Hope that helps.

No cold damage to my 6 varieties of mature citrus trees here. They are loaded with fruit and I think I need to pick a few to see if they are ready for eating! :D

Looks like our friends in Florida are really getting ready for a cold night. Hope you all keep warm... Maybe it's time to get the blankets out and snuggle with a boo tonight.

Stay warm folks.
