Pleioblastus graminious 19', 0.9"
Pl. juxianensis 34', 1.25"
Pl simonii vareigatus 29', 1.25"
Pseudosasa amabilis 26', 1.25"
Qiongzhuea tumidissinoda 16' , 0.75"/1.25" (internode/node)

Hi Mike, there's some impressive sizes there, did you measure you're Moso at the same time , just wondered what the true size was.

Cheers.

As I couldn't find a 60 foot pole to lean against the moso grove, the height measurement is an estimate. But a 30 foot pole leaned against the grove reaches about half way to the top, so I'm estimating 60 feet high. The culm diameter I could measure directly and it is 5.6 inches.

Phyllostachys aureosulcata spectabilis 36', 2"

That is an amazing size! How old is this plant? It's my favorite bamboo and I can only pray it will even come close to this size in my lifetime......

Mike, glad to see some pleioblastus on you're list , these plants are written off before you can even mention the second name of the plant here, I'm trying to convert some growers here but it's hard work.

Have you found these taller growing varietys as invasive as the smaller ones.

Many thanks.

The Phyllostachys aureosulcata spectabilis grove is 9 years old.

Of the large Pleioblastus on the list, P. graminium and P. simonii variagatus are fairly invasive. P. juxienensis hasn't been invasive so far, but it has only been in the ground for 3 years, too early to tell for now.

Mike,
Do you have any idea how big your pleioblastus juxianensis will get? Yours is already bigger than the ABS list says.
thanks,
Gene

Gene, I will know how big the P. juxienensis will get after it stops getting larger each year. This past spring's shoots were 10' higher than last year's.
