Mine look the same way. I'm a complete newbie, and I thought these were new leaves developing! :-)

Any suggestions on what to do? Just let the seeds drop if and when they form? Mine's in a container.

I think a couple of other people have mentioned thier Tsuboi flowering- Dan and Brad?
anyway, once the flowers open, they have to fertilize to get seeds, so it will be a few months. once the flowers start turning dry, thats when you want to see if you can shake any seed out of them, if you want to try to propagate any. some people use old nylon stockings to put around the seed heads so they dont loose any seed.

unfortunately not a variegated seedling from this clone yet. I hope mine doesn't flower as it is too small to produce good amounts of seed.

well, since its a runner, I guess there is a chance it might live.... it would be too bad if the variegated form dies out, its such a pretty boo.

Just checked the greenhouse and my tsuboi is flowering too. Not too surprising as mine came from Gene's. I already have a couple of tsuboi seedlings (green) that I started from seed I collected in Seattle last year.

I'm more interested to see if my fortunei will flower again this year, or how strong it comes back.

The Tsuboi seeds lose fertility fairly quickly and I would suggest planting them as soon as they fall off the plant.

I looked at my Tsuboi and it still is still alive after flowering last year. So far no sign of flowers this year, but then again it is probably a bit early.

Anybody want to venture a guess as to whether flowering will prove fatal, or whether Tsuboi is a variety that will pull through?

I may have an answer to that question in a few months. Mine survived flowering last year and is still alive. It may or may not do more flowering this year when it starts putting up shoots.

It would be a good idea to contact Betty Shor of the ABS and report your flowering of Pleioblastus shibuyanus 'Tsuboi'. So far she has only one report of it flowering.

Nothing like coming late to the party....
My Tsuboi is flowering also. Noticed it this past week.
I shear it to the ground each winter, so it came out flowering.
