And it's raining again.

RE: And it's raining again.
We got over an inch today in about 90 minutes! The bamboo are still happy, but I'm losing patience & so is my 2 year old. I can't remember a July this rainy.
I'm also pretty tired of hearing said 2 year old sing "rain rain go away" ad infinitum.

Yup... she continues to grow. No sign of slowing down. I will have my own bambos grove in my back yard... and my neighbor's back yard... and his neighbor's back yard... and his neighbor's back yard... and his neighbor's back yard...Roy wrote:
But I bet your Bambusa bambos in your backyard is loving all the rain.

Looks like some kind of weapon doesn't it. I had a boo friend come from Rockport, TX this past weekend. He just touched the tip of one of those branches... and it brought up blood. I think he changed his mind about taking home one of the cuttings.

The really big shoots don't come until October on the Bambos. Anyone want to buy a house with a boo? ... I mean a view of a boo?

Same here. Anyone know how to build a Bamboo Arc? We could put two kinds of each bamboo onboard.

RE: And it's raining again.
I wish we had some of the rain back! Every day we have a brilliant thunder and lightning show with big black clouds, but we have not had but a few drips of rain! I have seen rain around us, but it just does not come here
I had to water my yard 4 times this past week to keep it from becoming dust!

With all the rain we have had this past month or so, we are over 9.15" above where we normally are for this time of year.. They just said on the news that we had a record low for this time of year at 70F. because of all the cloud cover and rain.
It is absolutely dumping right now. Hope I still have some boo left at the farm.

According to our Tribune yesterday, 90% of the state of Florida is in a drought and unless it doesn't rain at least 20 inches in the next few months, the huge resevoir in Hillsborough County will no longer be useful!
Boonut, I do hope your boo on the farm is absorbing it all for future growth!!

Serenity,
We have more of a clay loam... it has slow permeability. I will just have to wait and see if they are ok.
I would blow it your way if I could. We have a Low weather system that is churning the same water around and around... I think it is sitting right on top of us.
It continues to poor even as I write this email. The good news is I put out a lot of Soil Sulfur to make the soil a little more acidic right before it really started raining. Some of the trees and other plants are really growing.
ALL of my recent cuttings are doing GREAT!!!! Good weather for culm node cuttings.

boonut wrote:I lost an Otatea Aztecorum "acuminata" that I planted about 3 months ago. It was in a 38 gallon pot with lots of shoots. I even planted it on a berm about 3 foot higher than the rest of the property, but we have had soo much rain it finally died... I think. No sign of life as of yet. It is still raining and in the forecast for the next 4 days or so.
What has really surprised me is that my Mexican Weeping is doing GREAT! Tons of new shots, and is upsizing very nicely. My dwarf Mexican Weeping boos were starting to look sad, but they are still in pots, so I just brought them under the covered patio, and now they are happy.
I think the combination of planting the Mexican Weeping at ground level (didn't dig it into the ground at all) and having a drain ~6' away really helped keep it alive and healthy.
Edit: forgot to mention that it is in fact raining again.

RE: And it's raining again.
I remember going months with no rain... we would hop in the truck and go chase the clouds to see some rain. That is the norm.
We saw the sun for the first time today between just a few drops... so maybe we will get some sun soon. Now we look forward to seeing some sun before the next round of rain comes in September. September is our month for rain... usually lots of it and that is why we normally get the big shoots in October.
I can't wait to be able to go out to the farm and see what is shooting. Hope nothing is dead. They still call for rain through the weekend.

I'm guessing that September is going to be DRY.boonut wrote:

That is one nice thing about having all my boo in my back yard... every night I go out and look at each one. My boo make me happy.boonut wrote: I can't wait to be able to go out to the farm and see what is shooting. Hope nothing is dead. They still call for rain through the weekend.
But in reality, your farm is close enough that you can stop by whenever you want... so just go and see what's happening out there.

Best of luck to you guys getting all the rain!
I know what you mean!! Most of my bamboo is up on our property which is about 2.5-3hours away depending on traffic!! I only have 7 different varieties at home to keep me amused until the weekendsI can't wait to be able to go out to the farm and see what is shooting. Hope nothing is dead. They still call for rain through the weekend.

Yeah, my farm is only about 2 miles away... I just don't like walking through the mud and making holes. Definitely won't drive through it.
I have two roads, but both are just raised dirt with some grass covering the road. I don't want to spoil the feeling I get by keeping it as natural as possible. No gravel drive or paved roads.
