I seem to be getting a round of unexpected shooting. Today I found shoots from:

Phyllostachys aurea
Phyllostachys edulis
Semiarundinaria yashadake 'Kimmei'
Arundinaria gigantea "Paperweight"
Phyllostachys heteroclada
Southern Indiana.
My Bamboo List.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

That was the last one I was waiting for. All of my bamboos have now put up at least one shoot. :)

Phyllostachys viridis 'Robert Young' has decided to put up another shoot. It is doing a major size-up.

I saw 3 shoots of Bambusa eutuldoides 'Viridivittata' poking their little tips out today. That's a 50 percent improvement over the maximum number of shoots I get each year from it. Another one of my slow culm producing clumps.

And while we are at it, here's a picture of my new Bambusa glaucophylla shoot. Somewhat stunning in its contrasting colors. At least in my opinion.

We returned after having been away for 3 weeks to find that Phyllostachys vivax 'Aureocaulis' has thrown up 6 new canes. These are already over 10 feet tall. Interestingly, they are all one size smaller than the shoots that emerged last year.

So, that's about the last the bamboos in our garden that I was still waiting for.

Nearly everything on my plant list has a new shoot popping out of the mulch. Even my runners. It's been a good year in west central Fla.

I have the same thing going on with my B. e. 'viridivittata' as well. Just bought it about 3 months ago in a 3 gallon pot from Tropical Bamboo and like everything from Robert, it's growing like crazy and looks excellent!! Well over 8' tall and filling out well. My B. lako, B. v. 'vittata' and my inversa have new shoots as well as my B. v. 'wamin'. Even one of my B. oldhamii has new shoots.

Temperate round two?

A few of my temperate bamboos have put up at least 1 more shoot, Aureosulcata has put up 4 in the last 2 weeks.

During the last 3 weeks:

1 Nigra
4 Aurea
4 Aureosulcata
6 Unknown (2 dif. plants)
1 Moso

Weird...

I've noticed the same thing! Several look like whip shoots that dwarf the main plant. The one from the "Robert Young" is just amazing!

foxd,
If the R.Y. you're referencing is a piece from what I sent to IN, it sent out shoots on and off almost all year. For every whipshoot there would be one or two smaller normal shoots.
