Does B. m. 'Golden Goddess' ever stop shooting?

Uno mas today.

Semiarundinaria yashadake 'Kimmei' shooting like mad. Fairly new plantings, maybe that's why. I haven't had this one very long, so I don't know- does this one usually shoot "whenever"? Hope they make it: Its looking very Fall-esque out there.

Not really. My B.m.'G.G' starts putting up new shoots in Feb, and finally tapers off in Dec.

Two smaller shoots ( smaller than the main plant) on a Bambusa ventricosa today. About 3/4 inch diam. Other culms are about 1 inch.

Just noticed this morning a new shoot from the oldhamii and chungii.

Gotta love the weather 88 deg. in the 2nd week in October.

we are already setting records here. coldest october day on record! old farmers almanac predicts a cold winter. even for the low end of its cycle the sun is less active than anytime since the beginning if the space age!

Among the inside bamboo:

I potted up some Pseudosasa viridula rhizome about a month or so ago and just recently found a shoot.

The one Melocanna bacciferra shoot still hasn't done anything. It seems firm and green. It looks alive, but no growth.

dudley: For a variety of reasons I don't put too much faith in a link between sunspots and the weather. For one thing we have passed the low point in the eleven year cycle of solar activity and there are signs that the activity is increasing. For another I've read Laut's criticisms of Henrik Svenmark's work on the "link" between global temperature and solar activity.

Also, I do remember reading a news report about an entire conference getting up and screaming at Svenmark that he was an idiot. This is usually a bad sign.

My impression is that the science behind the link is shaky at best.

Thing is, we've had such good frosts I've had to scrape the windshield on the car in the morning- its not particularly warm during the day- and my S y kimmei is still shooting- the newest ones are up a good 6 inches. And my Tumidissinoda is shooting still, and nothing seems effected by the cold.... yet.

I checked plants after getting back from the ABS convention. No unpleasant surprises and a few pleasant ones. Among the pleasant ones is that the M. baccifera that looked like it wasn't going to do anything has put up a shoot. It may pull through yet!

The shoot on the other M. baccifera still hasn't done anything, but it still looks alive. The plant itself does seem to have a few more green leaves than when I last looked at it.

N. California - Ch. marmorea variegata, Ch. quadrangularus, Ph. nigra punctata (potted outdoors), Ph. a. koi, Ph. nigra, F. rufa (potted outdoors). Above ave temps causing runners to shoot again for the year.

In the past couple days my Oldhamii and Kimnea have both produced new shoots. I thought during the winter they did not do so? Granted I am zone 9 but still it has been cold.
